Maria Moreno
Message from Candidate for Vice President

I would like for us to be known for significant accomplishments – ones we identify together. They may include redefining the roles or involvement of the chapter boards, increasing membership, creating new alliances, or taking up an important issue. The list is suggestive only but it does serve to underscore the need to focus and achieve results. It would be my great honor to take these next steps with you.

I’ve worked for Alameda Health System for 13 years and have been actively involved with both ACMEA (2019-Current) and SEIU (2012-2019). Through all phases of my career and in my regular day to day life I’m a union supporter and I stand on that whole heartedly,  serving in roles from shop steward to Vice President.

Outside of being a wife and mother to 3 amazing children, I enjoy our union work assisting my peers to understand contract language along with the do’s and don’ts in a union environment.

Together we can be bigger and better!

Angela Ball
Message from Candidate for Vice President

I am Angela Ball, the Director of Public Health Nursing at the Alameda County Public Health Department and am seeking your vote to be elected to the position of Vice President of ACMEA. I believe that it is only through organized labor associations, such as ACMEA, that workers have been able to obtain the wages they receive, good and safe working conditions, fair treatment, and significant retirement benefits.

I have been in my current role for 13 years. During this time I have served in various other leadership roles, including the Health Care Services Agency COVID-19 Deputy Safety Officer, where since 2020, I remain responsible for ensuring that staff function in an environment that is free of workplace hazards; have the information and materials necessary to perform their jobs safely; ensure that the health needs of staff, both physical and psychological, are addressed; and take immediate action when necessary, to prevent or stop unsafe practices.

I was a member of the ACMEA Health and Safety Committee working with ACMEA members to advocate for safe working conditions during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, I am an active member of the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee of the national Association of Public Health Nurses.

Since 2010, I have been an active member of the California Directors of Public Health Nursing, an organization with a stated mission “to advance the practice of public health through innovative and effective public health nursing leadership”. In 2018 and again in 2021, I was elected and served two terms as President.

I am active in the State of California Chronic Disease Prevention Leadership Project, in which public health leaders across the state work collaboratively to prevent chronic disease and related disparities.

In 2021, I was appointed to the Office of Health Equity - Advisory Committee by the Director of the California Department of Public Health and the State Health Officer to advise on the development of state policies regarding all types of health and communication issues affecting vulnerable communities statewide.

Given my experience in serving in key leadership roles and in working with other people and organizations at the local, state and national levels to promote social and environmental justice, equity and inclusion and supporting everyone no matter where they work and live in our County; as Vice President of ACMEA, I will bring years of foundational leadership positions and professional experiences into my work with ACMEA’s Board of Directors and members to collectively advocate for and promote a future in which all members receive what they need to live and work in an effective and supported manner.

- Angela Ball
