ACMEA is currently in contract negotiations with Alameda County for the General and Confidential Units. During our conversations with the County, we submitted a proposal trying to fix compaction issues. Compaction occurs when the salary gap between an ACMEA supervisor and their staff is less than 5%, presenting a major problem. The County looked into the matter and identified these 16 classifications (47 members) as impacted by compaction:

  • Accounting Technician
  • Assessor's Representative
  • Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor
  • BH Crisis Intervention Specialist Supervisor
  • Clinical Review Specialist Supervisor
  • Director, Public Health Nursing
  • Field Maintenance Supervisor
  • Pharmacy Director, BHCS
  • Procurement and Contracts Supervisor
  • Public Works Fleet Supervisor
  • Registered Nurse IV
  • Registered Nurse V
  • Senior Billing Technician
  • Supervising Appraiser II
  • Supervising Auditor-Appraiser II
  • Vector Control Biologist Supervisor

Recognizing the severity of the issue, we were able to address compaction immediately instead of waiting for the conclusion of negotiations. While approval from the Alameda County Board of Supervisors is still required, we do not anticipate any problems and expect the salary increase to take effect on 3/31/2024 for these classifications.

This increase is aimed at fixing compaction. Additional financial proposals, such as cost-of-living adjustments, are still being negotiated. Stay tuned for further updates!
